Who we are?
The family of John P. Hughes intends to memorialize his admirable qualities by way of this memorial scholarship fund. John persevered through a debilitating illness known as Gullian-Barre. For two years he suffered its handicapping effects. Years later he was diagnosed with colon cancer. His courage and resolve were exemplary until death on March 17, 2005. John was 65 years old.
Why we are?
John P. Hughes was born in Mount Vernon, NY. He attended Mount St. Michael High School, and graduated from Iona College, both in New York. He was employed by Exxon Company, USA for thirty-three years. His distingued career spanned the accounting and tax departments. He resided in Humble, TX and Jupiter, FL.
We are a non-profit charity with all proceeds benefiting The John P. Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund.
What we are?
The John P. Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to enable a graduate of a local school district to attend Sam Houston State University and Lone Star College system. It is intended for these endowed scholarships to provide tuition, books, fees and other educational expenses for the recipient. The recipient of these scholarships will be a student who has demonstrated a purposeful and positive spirit in the face of adversity.
